Meet our Self Defense Instructors
Robert Jansen, Chief Instructor, is a certified Fit to Fight trainer, personal trainer, and Krav Maga instructor for civilians and law enforcement. He is a former Swedish Marine and veteran of the Kosovo conflicts. Robert is a graduate from ESI Executive Security International and a certified Close Protection Specialist. He brings extensive military background, Executive Security knowledge, and over 20 years of experience to his training of Krav Maga. He has worked both internationally and nationally providing individuals and companies his services through security and training.
Dennis Smith is a former airman and soldier and a veteran of Desert Storm. Dennis became a military helicopter pilot while serving in the United States Army. He has been involved in the martial arts for over 20 years. He is a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, 2nd degree black belt in Combat Hapkido, and is a certified Krav Maga instructor for civilians as well as Law Enforcement. He has been certified as a Tactical Instructor with CDT and has spent the last 4 years as a police officer and helicopter pilot with the Lexington Police Department. When not flying Dennis spends his "down" time as a Lexington Police Tactics instructor.
Gabriel Popa, certified Fit to Fight Instructor, is a native of Romania where he studied martial arts in secrecy and often in an open area of forest many miles from town as it was illegal under communist rule at the time. His intensity and style show students what they can achieve through training. Gabriel's knowledge is extremely valuable to our team.
Bobby Doolin, certified Fit to Fight Instructor, has a background in wrestling which proves a valuable asset in combination with his Krav Maga training. More to come...
Lindsay Jansen, Kids Krav Maga, Certified youth and adult instructor. Lindsay strives to build strong, capable, and confident students.
Jamie Hurt, Kids Krav Maga, has been training with Krav Maga Kentucky since 2010. While training in Krav Maga she started assisting with the youth program. She found a passion for teaching kids self defense and this passion lead her to become certified in PRIDE, youth program. She understands the importance for the kids to build self confidence, get fit, and have fun while they learn how to protect themselves through being aware of their environment, avoiding a situation, and using the skills learned to get out of a situation. She believes youth and adults training in Krav Maga will help in all areas of life.
Mary Reeder, Membership Coordinator & Fit to Fight Instructor, with nine years of military background. She hopes students will learn and improve a great many physical and psychological attributes. As Membership Coordinator she communicates with the membership base to ensure satisfaction and growth. She also develops marketing materials and strategies, manages social media, and promotes KMKY through proactive content marketing.

Zach has close to 8 years in Krav Maga and experience in a few other styles of Martial arts. He is currently an KMKY assistant Instructor and is aspiring to level up as an Fit to Fight Krav Maga Instructor during 2019.
His classes are intense and well structured, works well for the novice and the more advanced practitioner of Krav Maga.

Dave has close to two decades in Krav Maga. Dave is a certified LE Krav Maga instructor and regularly trains new recruits. His classes are serious and well structured, with a touch of fun at times. As an instructor Dave works well with novice and the more advanced practitioner of Krav Maga.
